Hypothesis

1)  The opportunity that I would like to pursue is search and tracking algorithms using infrared cameras for reconnaissance of military aircraft.
2) The Air Force branches of several countries don't have a strong ability to look for enemies from large distances because the tracking systems haven't been smart enough to target heat signatures, identify the object, and see where its going to land.
3) These algorithms can also be applied to security, the police force, the Coast Guard and other tracking requirements. The tracking systems can become smarter through infrared technology, but the aircraft can also become smarter and fly to find enemies autonomously. Reconnaissance can be used in a variety of different methods from satellite tracking to GPS.
4)
Interviews:
        1) I learned that infrared camera's may not be the most feasible method because of how costly the sensors are to purchase and repair.
        2) The search and tracking algorithms could be applied to predict hurricanes and other storms in their trajectory and power.
         3) The search and tracking algorithms may be essential in conjunction with electro-optic sensor for higher resolution and focus.
       4) Reconnaissance doesn't need to be applied from the air, but from within a society that can be infiltrated with spies.
       5)  This technology could be ground breaking in the sense of military guidance and support, but if it would fall into the wrong hands it could cause mass destruction.

  1. Hi Aaron,
This is an interesting concept to bring up because it has been one that we have seen before in terms of using infrared scanning. What I particularly enjoyed about your post was that you added an algorithm element to your opportunity; this takes it beyond the “let’s just use infrared” argument. Your interviews appear to be quite informative and seemed to help you narrow your opportunity a bit.

  2. Hi Aaron,
This was a really cool topic because its not something that is discussed outside of military technology, or at least not to my knowledge. This is such an interesting technology, that when used properly, can be extremely beneficial and powerful. I also found it interesting that in one of the interviews, you brought up that the infrared can be used for weather tracking.
