1) The opportunity that I would like to pursue is search and tracking algorithms using infrared cameras for reconnaissance of military aircraft.
2) The Air Force branches of several countries don't have a strong ability to look for enemies from large distances because the tracking systems haven't been smart enough to target heat signatures, identify the object, and see where its going to land.
3) These algorithms can also be applied to security, the police force, the Coast Guard and other tracking requirements. The tracking systems can become smarter through infrared technology, but the aircraft can also become smarter and fly to find enemies autonomously. Reconnaissance can be used in a variety of different methods from satellite tracking to GPS.
4)
Interviews:
1) I learned that infrared camera's may not be the most feasible method because of how costly the sensors are to purchase and repair.
2) The search and tracking algorithms could be applied to predict hurricanes and other storms in their trajectory and power.
3) The search and tracking algorithms may be essential in conjunction with electro-optic sensor for higher resolution and focus.
4) Reconnaissance doesn't need to be applied from the air, but from within a society that can be infiltrated with spies.
5) This technology could be ground breaking in the sense of military guidance and support, but if it would fall into the wrong hands it could cause mass destruction.

Identifying Opportunities in Economic & Regulatory Trends
1) Economic Trend: Research and Development Funding Increase for Canadian Space Industry
http://spacenews.com/canada-doles-out-rd-dollars-while-new-space-strategy-remains-overdue/
This article suggests that there will be an increased interest and support for the Canadian space industry because the Canadian government is expecting to provide $20 million to companies and universities. The customers of this opportunity will be local Canadian schools and startups wanting to be involved in new space innovation. This opportunity is relatively difficult to exploit because the industry is highly competitive and the breakthroughs take a lot of time and money to accomplish. I identified this opportunity because I have been a space advocate for a number of years and know how important it is to have funding for research.
2) Regulatory change: New Policy Directive Implements Commercial Space Regulatory Reforms
http://spacenews.com/new-policy-directive-implements-commercial-space-regulatory-reforms/
The Space Policy Directive 2 was signed by President Donald Trump and seeks to make it easier for US space companies to conduct in launch and remote sensing regulations, export control, and earning frequent access to space. The most likely customer is private space companies to gain advantage of the governments opportunity of power to gain access to government facilities. The opportunity is relatively difficult to exploit because it depends on the market for private space travel and having people interested in going to space. I formed my belief based on my friends experiences for working for SpaceX, a private space company, and facing the challenges of government regulation that delay innovation and progress.
3) Economic trend: Huge sales of defense articles to Asia-Pacific as tensions arise with North Korea
http://spacenews.com/amid-tensions-in-asia-pacific-state-dept-calls-attention-to-big-ticket-sales-of-u-s-missiles-aircraft-to-japan-south-korea/
The United States has sold $14.4 billion of defense articles, including aircraft parts, military electronics, launch vehicles, spacecraft systems, etc. to Japan and South Korea. The most likely customers for this economic surge of defense spending are to democratic nations in Asia that are wanting to avoid conflict with North Korea. The opportunity is easy because the Asian governments are purchasing the technology from American companies and departments. I formed my belief based on my research on the current political situation and witnessing Kim Jong Un conduct six nuclear tests within the past year.
4) Regulatory change: Artificial intelligence has changed the views on society
http://spacenews.com/nga-official-artificial-intelligence-is-changing-everything-we-need-a-different-mentality/
The military and tech sector are progressing the ability for artificial intelligence to know more about everything than ever before based off learning algorithms and technologies such as surveillance and image collection. The customers for this is everyone because systems, computer electronic, and mechanical are becoming smarter and smarter and may find there way into every niche of human life. The regulation is already have and quick because computers are constantly learning new things and billions of data information are stored in systems every day. I formed this belief because I am a millenial and have been exposed to how rapidly technology and innovation can change in a mtter of a few years and how dramatically different systems really are from their predecessors.

Forming an Opportunity Belief
1) After discovering the my phone is constantly losing battery percentage from every day use, I found that having a battery is quite helpful. Although as much as I'd like to carry around a wire and have an outlet near me, these two things are almost never true. I believe that having a disposable battery pack to charge your phone can bring great opportunity to the power market.
2) The unmet need is having battery power accessible to your phone at all times of the day. The need comes from anyone that owns a smart phone or tablet. The need came from people using their phones a majority of the day and constantly needing power for them to use the device more. Some people are bringing charging battery packs with a charging cable around to where they are going, but these aren't as portable and you need to charge the battery pack. This opportunity exists around 100%.
Interviews
3) Iteration No. 1: Person at Disney with a dead smart phone
4)-What is the exact nature of the need?
The nature of this need is immediate because the person's phone needs power for it to turn on and for the person to continue their tasks.
-When do they become aware of the need -- that is, do they experience their need all the time or only sometimes?
This need is only apparent as the phone loses all of its power, which is usually 1-2 times a day.
-How long have they had the need?
The person has had the need for instant battery life since their phone died.
-When did they first become aware of their need? Why?
They became first aware of their need when their phone died at Disney because the person couldn't get in contact with the rest of their party.
- How are they currently addressing their need?
They are currently addressing the need by trying to find a charging station or someone with a charger.
-How satisfied are they with this solution?
The person was completely satisfied with this solution because their phone is alive and charging and the person is able to communicate with their party.
-What did you learn about your opportunity?
I learned that relieving people of feeling scared and anxious is very humbling.
3) Iteration No. 2: Person at a basketball game with a phone in Low Battery
4)What is the exact nature of the need?
The nature of this need is not as immediate but coming close to it.
When do they become aware of the need -- that is, do they experience their need all the time or only sometimes?
The person became aware of this need as the "20% Low Battery" notification came up on his phone and he had to become aware of his battery usage.
How long have they had the need?
The person has the need with them since their phone went on Low Battery mode.
When did they first become aware of their need? Why?
They first became aware of their need when they had to conserve battery power and wasn't able to take as many picture or videos at the basketball game.
How are they currently addressing their need?
They were currently addressing their need by lower the power output on the phone, including dimming the lights, turning off WiFi, and not taking as many pictures.
How satisfied are they with this solution?
The person was very satisfied with the solution because they were able to take several more key moments of the basketball game because they didn't have to worry about their phone dying.
What did you learn about your opportunity?
I learned that people are willing to pay a lot for convenience.
3) Iteration No. 3: Person going on a long hike and may need some battery power later in the day
4)What is the exact nature of the need?
The nature of this need is long term, but still a possibility in the future.
When do they become aware of the need -- that is, do they experience their need all the time or only sometimes?
The person becomes aware of the need when the battery on their phone is decreasing.
How long have they had the need?
They have had this need ever since they started hiking but couldn't hike as long because they were dependent on their phone's battery.
When did they first become aware of their need? Why?
They first became aware of this need when their phone died at the end of a hike.
How are they currently addressing their need?
They are currently addressing this issue by bringing a charging cable and rechargeable battery pack.
How satisfied are they with this solution?
They are satisfied with this solution because they don't have to charge the battery before they go on the hike of two devices instead of just the smart phone.
What did you learn about your opportunity?
I learned that people always are prepared when going out to do activities.
5) The most surprising thing that I learned in all three of these interviews are how dependent people actually are to their cell phones. The day almost isn't centered on the individual, but how centered the person is via social media, which is only accessible on a portable device.
7) Summarize.
How much of your original opportunity is still there?
The general concept of my opportunity is still there, but with some critiques on the way the device should fit into the phone and how big the battery pack were addressed.
Do you believe that your new opportunity is more accurate than when you started?
Yes, I do believe my new opportunity is more accurate than when I started because the changes were made due to the opinions of people who would generally consume the product.
How much do you think entrepreneurs should 'adapt' their opportunities based on customer feedback? (In other words, is there a trade-off between adapting and staying firm?)
Entrepreneurs should always adapt their opportunities based on customer feedback because if the people don't like a characteristic about one opportunity, it may steer them away or to a competing opportunity.
My Entrepreneurship Story
I have been exposed to entrepreneurship nearly my entire life. My father has owned, invested, and created several companies and businesses since I was born. Throughout my life, I had been taught to always be hard working and not take things for granted because it's just business. Several morals that I thought had been true didn't work in the private sector. A small company has to make a lot of growth and make a "name" for itself in order to stay competitive against a "dog eat dog" market . Even if a company is doing everything correct in terms of meeting quotas or fulfilling people's satisfaction, anything can happen. Products are only successful because of the people buying the products. If public appeal or brand recognition gets negative reviews, the company can only hope to survive. I remember from either sweeping floors in a warehouse or driving around job sites that mistakes are always bound to happen and not every engine runs perfectly.
I enrolled in ENT3003 because I wanted to gain the knowledge and expertise of an entrepreneur if I end of developing a product that can be marketed and sold to the public. I always found it interesting in how to capture people's attention towards certain characteristics and I hope to gain more skills in order to innovate while making an impact in people's lives.

2. It isn't possible to have your glasses accessible to your peripheral vision.
This is because glasses are made to enhance your vision when looking forward at an object.
3. My phone's battery quickly decreases when I'm at a football game.
The presence of a lot of people force the antenna in your phone to work harder because you are constantly being kicked off the cell signal and being put back on.
4. My computers battery degrades over time even if I charge it a lot.
A computer's battery capacity decreases with power constantly being supplied to it.
5. Apps take a long time to open once the phone is just turned on.
The processors of the phone aren't running a full capacity as the phone is turning on and will take longer to open with slower processing speed.
6. Credit cards are flimsy and easy to lose because they are small.
Credit cards are flimsy and easy to lose because they are supposed to be compact and easily disposable.
7. Some phone chargers take so long to charge a phone.
The amount of power going from a source to the phone isn't very high due to the wire's resistance.
8. Wireless headphones are difficult to use because you have to charge the battery.
The presence of a battery gives the headphone the convenience of not having wires.
9. The graphite in mechanical pencils break easily when applied with too much force.
The graphite needs to be thin enough to fit a lot inside of the pencil and be easy to write with.
10. The bed in most dorms isn't very comfortable.
The bed provided is small and doesn't have many comforting aspects.
11. When leaning back in a chair, it is easy to fall over.
A normal chair isn't made for someone to lean back in.
12. The air conditioner needs a filter change every month.
The filter has reached it's capacity to catch particulates in the air.
13. It is easy to burn yourself when you are using the oven.
The oven reaches very high temperatures in order to cook food.

iMessage is only available for iPhones and Apple products.
15. YouTube is no longer a native app to iPhone.
Apple removed it from being a native app to a downloadable after Google bought YouTube.
16. The glass on the screen of an iPhone isn't very strong.
The material that is in the glass is very brittle.
17. The keys on a keyboard can be clunky.
The keys on a keyboard may be bigger due to the sensitivity of each sensor underneath the board.
18. The internet connection may cut in and out when still being connected to power.
The bandwidth on the router may be to much for the device to handle and it may restart itself.
19. When you plug in a charger to an outlet and only one of the outlets work.
This is due to the connection between both ports being weak with the rest of the wiring system.
20. When I have a lot of programs open on my computer and some of them don't respond well.
The processor on the computer isn't capable of running many programs at one time due to its limited memory.
I found this assignment difficult to think about because you genuinely had to challenge objects you use in your everyday life. By being an engineer, I have to be around a lot of electronics and a source of my problems throughout the day are related to electronics and electrical systems. Also, our generation is powered on instant gratification and portability, so there is always something around us that we find slow or unappealing. It is great to truly think about a product, evaluate its strengths and weaknesses, and try to find a way to innovate and make it better.
